About Dr Tendani Muthambi
Born in Limpopo in 1980, Dr Tendani Muthambi attended school in the area and matriculated in 1999. Knowing that he always wanted to pursue a career in medicine, he completed his undergraduate medical degree in 2005 through the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.
Dr Muthambi then continued to complete his internship year at Leratong Hospital in Johannesburg in 2006. In 2007 he went on to finish his community service year at Helen Joseph Hospital in which he was involved in the emergency and casualty wing. For him, being a doctor was defined by physically changing lives with your hands. Working in the emergency wing meant exactly that and after spending time in this department from 2008 to 2011, Dr Muthambi gained an interest in the surgical treatment of trauma patients. Seeing patients enter the emergency room with extensive injuries to be referred to a general surgeon for treatment, left Dr Muthambi yearning to see the outcome of these patient’s recovery. Frustrated and compelled, Dr Muthambi sought to further his skill-set and obtain his postgraduate specialization in General Surgery through Wits in 2015.
While he is currently specialised in the full spectrum of general surgery, Dr Muthambi aims to direct his future endeavours into weight-loss surgery.
